The idea

Course syllabi at Langara have to meet college policy F1003. To simplify the process of creating a course syllabus, with an emphasis on accessible output, I was tasked with creating a course syllabus generator.

What I built

I scoped the tool against policy F1003 and against how peer institutions handle course syllabi, then built it as an HTML and JavaScript application. The generator includes:

  • A form front end. Instructors fill in a form built around what the policy asks a syllabus to contain.
  • Clean HTML export. The output uses inline styles only, so it pastes into Brightspace or Drupal without picking up stray formatting or breaking either platform's layout.

Where it stands

The course outline generator will be released in November 2026 for instructor to use when creating courses for Spring 2027.
