AT Exchange
The AT Exchange was hosted by TechEdology at BCIT's Tech Collider space at their downtown Vancouver campus. The event featured speakers representing numerous assistive technology products.
AT Exchange
Why I liked it
While none of the technology was new to me, the event was an excellent opportunity to check in on changes and updates. The speakers were knowledgeable, providing useful overview demos and highlighted key new features. The audience provided useful questions that tested some of the presenters but ultimately led to productive exchanges and discussions.
Why its usefuk
Frankly, the most useful part of the day was the offer of licenses for Genio and Inspiration 12. Genio may be explored as an option to meet notetaking accommodations and Inspiration is a useful, albeit underutilized, organizing and writing tool that more students should have access to.
How I will use it
Exploring Genio will help inform my contribution to the technology-based notetaking working group that Langara's Accessibility Services department is looking to start. Unfortunately, given the limited uptake of Inspiration, I anticipate less use and exploration of this tool. However, if ATBC were able to provide individual funding for students to purchase Inspiration licenses, I would advocate for it's expanded use.
